Box Talent History

Box Talent Agency was created by college student David Box when he and some friends planned to have a NYE party with lots of friends, some drinks and a band. When they ended up making a little over $5,000, David realized he was onto something. Who would have ever thought you could get paid to throw a party? Maybe it was that moment David realized he had a special talent for organizing get-togethers. Shortly after that keg party David found himself managing the band from the party for a small commission. After graduating from the University of Oklahoma in 1986, he decided to put his whole heart into the business.

David began working out of his home with a phone that had call waiting and an empty calendar. It didn't take long for the phone to start ringing off the hook and the calendar to fill. Since that time in 1987, Box Talent has gone from a one-man show to a thriving agency that is constantly changing to meet the demands of its clients. The Box Talent team now consists of 14 members ready to give you the entertainment experience of your life. Box Talent has become the standard in the entertainment industry in Oklahoma.

Over the years, David has done agent work for the Dixie Chicks, Cary Pierce (A&M Records), Nixons (Dragon Street and MCA), and Wakeland (Warren Brothers). He was the agent for the Rolling Stone College Tour with Verve Pipe (RCA), Imposters (Interscope), and Seed (Warren Brothers). In addition, he has managed the Chainsaw Kittens and helped them with the Jane’s Addiction tour. With his experience, he was used as a music expert witness for the State of Oklahoma, spoken at many universities and served on a new music panel in New York. David was one of the first members of the Bricktown Association and has actively been involved in the redevelopment of Campus Corner. With his promotion of Oklahoma bands, he has helped many feature their songs on shows such as: Melrose Place, Malibu Shores, and One Life To Live. Along with band promotion, he also has owned clubs in the area including: Rome, Pyramid, Rome 90, Shark Club, Bricktown Amphitheater, Quazimoto’s, Red Room, Will Rogers Theater, and Eureka 307.

Over the last 18 years, as a company, Box Talent has promoted all kinds of bands from all different genres of music. Such bands as The Black Crowes, Dr. Dre, Everclear, Dave Matthews Band, Big Head Todd, Goo Goo Dolls, David Allen Coe, Better than Ezra, Dream, Robert Earl Keen, and Rick Springfield just to name a few. Box Talent also manages a wide variety of bands that can be found on the website. The company has grown in many ways and employed over 250 employees throughout the years. Box Talent is also pleased to have on staff as a music agent, Jeff Scheel, former member of Gravity Kills (charted #1 Modern Rock Song “Guilty” and KROCK Top 100 Song). In addition to managing and promoting bands, Box Talent books bands for clubs in Norman, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Fayetteville, and Dallas, to name few. Box Talent books bands for private parties and concerts as well. The company has venues that are available to rent for private parties and sorority/fraternity functions. We also have a non-profit casino company, Smartt Casino, and a mobile DJ operation.

The Box Talent Agency Team has a love of music. Whether it is organizing a concert for 10,000 people or an intimate wedding reception, Box Talent can give you exactly what you want. Over the years Box Talent has become a successful company by not only meeting our clients' expectations, but exceeding them. Our goal, as a team, is to make you happy!
