Eclectic Touches

Adding your own personal flare to wedding décor says something to your guests. First, it says that you and your partner put a lot of thought into your big day. Second, it ensures that the uniqueness of your décor will be hard to replicate (which is a good thing, right?) by any impressed wedding guest. With this style of décor, you and your partner are sure to have fun finding all of the little touches to add for your big day

  • Rent a photo booth and set out a basket of “props” (silly hats, funny signs and weird accessories) for your guests to take photos with. You will be surprised by all the silly and sweet pictures that you will have to look back on.
  • Give guests colored feathers to throw in the air after you and your partner say “I do.” Not only will they be easier to clean up than rice, but they also look really fun.
  • Hang colorful paper lanterns on the ceiling and around your reception to add color and interest at your venue.
  • If you have a DJ, list songs for him or her to play that were important in the growing relationship between you and your partner.

Be careful not to go over-the-top with your addition of color. The best way to utilize this style of wedding is to keep a neutral color “base” of white, cream and blush pink. After you do this, adding pops of color all over the room will liven up the entire area.

Go Retro

Vintage styles have been quite the rage in the past few years. With the popularity of The Great Gatsby, many weddings of 2012 featured 1920s-styled décor and dresses. But what’s the new thing for 2013? Going retro. Thanks to Mad Men, an advertising TV drama set in the 1960s, mid-century modern style has been popping up in home and wedding décor.

Are you a fan of this style? If so, take inspiration from the show:

  • Serve old fashioned cocktails (Don Draper’s favorite) in tumbler glasses for guests to sip on as they mingle.
  • Find a beautiful vintage wedding dress to wow your guests in. Or, for added bonus points, sew your own.
  • Rent a vintage 50s or 60s era car to arrive and leave the reception in.
  • Set out hors d'oeuvres (think chips & dip, deviled eggs, and salted nuts) on colorful serving trays for guests to enjoy before your arrival.
  • Hire a live band to play music straight from the show for a truly authentic feel

The best part about these two trends? They offer endless possibilities and allow you to be as creative as you want. In the end, choose what’s right for you and your partner. Add in items that are special for the two of you and make your night just that much more special.
