OCU Law School presents A Night for the Innocence featuring Gladys Knight

Posted on April 13, 2012

It was a night of dancing with a star… as the OCU School of Law hosted an evening with the Motown legend, Gladys Knight. The event was a fundraiser for Oklahoma Innocence Project, an Oklahoma City University School of Law initiative that seeks to exonerate wrongly convicted inmates.

This glamorous evening began with Oklahoma’s own, Crooner, Wade Tower singing “Stand by Me.” Anita Blanton of Eyewitness News 5 acted as Mistress of Ceremonies. Also during the gala, the law school presented the Beacon of Justice Award to former Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson; former University of Oklahoma and Dallas Cowboys head coach Barry Switzer and his wife, Becky; and R. Cullen and Bonnie Thomas. The school presents the award annually to those it identifies as demonstrating leadership in seeking to rectify and prevent wrongful convictions.

After the program, an eager crowd awaited the arrival of Ms. Knight on stage. Her dynamic vocals filled the room from the first note and the dance floor was at capacity.  Special guests, including Tristan MacManus, her Dancing with the Stars partner, and a surprise performance by Bubba Knight – one of the Pips! The Queen of R&B captivated the audience to the end … and left them wanting more. The event was truly a success!
