Rodney Ladd, also known as Hot Rod Beats got his start with a drum kit and endless Sundays playing at his uncle’s apostolic church since the age of 6. His instinctual knowledge of complex drum patterns and ear for harmony has led his ear into a wide range of genres and has continued to gear his capabilities in all aspects of production and live performance.
A regional radio hit, he produced a hip hop track “Rap Star” for his cousin and rapper Big Stik in 2005 beginning a thread of countless live performances, mixtapes, and more radio hits to follow. Opening up for commercial rap artists such as Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, Devin the Dude, he got his first taste for live DJ performance and quickly transitioned his performance to local clubs to get his music heard on a weekly basis.
Although hip hop and rap are a deep part of his upbringing, what stands himself apart is his fervid will to explore the entire musical landscape. His live DJ sets include a combination of hip hop, rap, R&B, funk, disco, EDM, deep house, contemporary, chillwave, and mashups of all genres. With the use of drum machines, synthesizers, an open labs DAW, and two turntables, his long awaited 1st LP will be an electronic journey of genuine humanity. You can catch Rodney's energetic mixes every Wednesday and Saturday evenings playing on EntourageRadio.com and every first Friday at Sauced in the Paseo in Oklahoma City.
